The timeline presented to you on this page will show you the different stages involved for patients wishing to undergo bariatric surgery.
The time indicated between each stage is approximate and may vary over time.

- Registration is the first step in securing an appointment with a member of our team of healthcare professionals.
- To register on the waiting list for your first meeting, please complete the questionnaire in the "Registration" tab.
- You will receive a confirmation email. If you haven't received it within 24 hours of submitting the form, please try again. If the problem persists, click "here" to contact us.
- At this stage, medical referral is not necessary
We receive over 200 new requests per month due to the long wait list.
When it is your turn, a nurse will contact you. The purpose of this meeting is to update your file by answering a short medical questionnaire and to inform you about the process, procedures, and various topics surrounding bariatric surgery.
You will be contacted by phone.
Your first appointment will be held at our satellite bariatric surgery clinic located in the Town of Mount-Royal.
- A medical referral from your family doctor must be provided for this step.
- Your file will be evaluated and completed by your surgeon
- If the information is complete and you are eligible, a surgery will be proposed and, with your consent, a request for admission will be sent to our bariatric surgery outpatient clinic at Sacré-Coeur Hospital in Montreal.
- Sometimes, before being able to make a decision, your surgeon may ask you to take additional tests, in order to offer you the best possible choice, depending on your health condition.
- A few weeks to a few months (about 3) before your surgery:
- You will have an appointment with a nurse at Sacré-Coeur hospital to:
- Prepare your medical file for the operation
- Perform preoperative examinations (blood tests, electrocardiogram, etc.)
- Receive education about the surgery (preparation, day of surgery, convalescence, etc.)
- You will also meet with a nutritionist and receive a food guide specific to bariatric surgery
- You will have an appointment with a nurse at Sacré-Coeur hospital to:
Depending on your health condition, the type of surgery and availability, your surgery will be performed either at:
- The Sacré-Coeur Hospital in Montreal
- Jean-Talon Hospital
- Rockland MD Surgery Clinic
Following your surgery, you will have several follow-up appointments, they are part of the process and essential for a smooth journey. You will be invited to make an appointment 1 month, 6 months and 1 year after your surgery. Your surgeon may, for various reasons, ask to see you sooner.
Thereafter, your follow-ups can be every 6 months or every year, or according to how you progress.
